  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

That's good Frank is adjusting. My cats would disappear for days anytime we moved. I'd hunt for them but one, my favorite, hid between the basement ceiling and first floor...floor. I think so anyway. It took them as long to feel "at home" as it did me. So, here's hoping you adjust as well as your cat. But you're already at home, in a way, and such an intrepid traveler, Claire. Have you started classes yet? Will you be student teaching?

Glad to learn that Frank is finding his new digs acceptable.

Looking forward to the photos and more stories of your new travels in OH.

Exactly how is your parents thumping around and playing NPR different than when we did it? As I recall, Franklin was subjected to your morning tirades of "f-ing morons! Can you believe this? I can't believe how f-ing amoral the Justice department is!" Bless you. I think the F-lin knows morning f-bombs fairly well by now.

And please - after all of the money you spend on certified melamine free, organic, colonic cleanse cat food, why you gonna let him eat squirrel? Why, Claire?
